Roost is different from what the ground throws up underneath. It comes off the front tires at speed, aimed backwards, and it hits the rear shock where the shaft and seal live. That is the damage that shows up as a weeping shock a few thousand miles in.

Blocking it is cheap insurance next to a set of rear shocks, and it is the single most recommended protection part for a truck that sees harsh off-road conditions.

The mud flap stops what comes forward off the front tires. The 2027 TRX rear shock skid guards the bottom of the shock body and the axle mounts from what the ground throws up.

Running both is the popular combination for full rear shock protection.

The 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024 TRX is a different generation and uses its own version. Ram did not build a TRX for 2025 or 2026, so a part listed for 2021-2024 does not carry forward to the 2027 truck.

Do I get one or two?

Two — sold as a pair, one for each side, preassembled with the flaps already fitted.

How big is the flap?

18 inches long by 7 inches wide, which is sized to fully cover the rear shock.

Will it tear off at speed?

The rubber is thick and nylon-reinforced rather than plain rubber, and the bracket is laser-cut, CNC bent and MIG welded steel rather than plastic.

Does installing it require drilling?

No. The bracket bolts into the upper frame using the supplied flag nuts and hardware.

Is this the same as the shock skid?

No, they cover different threats. See the section above — most people run both.
