Description
A 3/16" steel rear differential skid plate for the 2024 and newer Ford Ranger Raptor. It covers the bottom of the rear axle housing, the differential cover seal and the low-hanging drain plug, and is custom fit to clear the fuel tank.
The seal on the bottom of the differential is a long-standing weak point on off-road vehicles. It sits low, takes the hit when the axle drags over a rock, and once it leaks the gear oil goes with it. This skid puts steel between that seal and the trail.
What Is In The Kit
- 1 rear differential skid assembly
- 1 hardware kit, all Grade 8
Why A Rear Differential Skid
The rear differential is one of the lowest points under the back of the truck, and it is a solid part that cannot move out of the way. When the axle comes down on a rock or drags through a ledge, the cover seal, the casting and the drain plug take the impact directly.
A skid plate spreads that hit across a steel plate and gives the axle a surface that slides rather than catches. It supports and covers the lower front section of the differential, so the protection is not just a flat plate under the cover.
What It Covers
- The cover seal on the bottom of the differential.
- The lower front section of the differential, supported and covered against rocks.
- The front third member casting, all the way up to the front yoke.
- The bottom of the rear axle housing and the low-hanging drain plug.
