Description
A 5-link bed cage rear suspension kit for the 2017–2020 Gen 2 Ford F-150 Raptor that converts the rear to Gen 3 geometry and mounts a 3.5 x 16" or 4.0 x 16" bypass shock through the bed, for nearly 17" of rear wheel travel. Built around stock Gen 3 rear suspension geometry and links, so you can run Gen 3 take-off parts, aftermarket upgrades or FMI billet aluminum rear links and panhard bar.
The Gen 2 leaf-sprung rear limits how much travel and control the truck can have. This kit converts it to a coil-sprung 5-link with a high quality bypass shock controlling the travel. The design is modular, so you can mix and match shocks, springs, links and tire setups, and change them later.
What Is In The Kit
- Bed cage kit with side shock mounts for through-the-bed mounting of a 3.5 x 16" or 4.0 x 16" bypass shock
- Dual stand-up tire configuration or single flat spare mount
- Quick-release jack add-on
- Frame mount support kit
- Gen 3 Raptor rear limit strap kit
- Rear coil spring mounts with integrated panhard bar mount in the stock Gen 3 location
- Rear link mounts that weld to the frame in the stock Gen 3 location
- Rear axle mount kit with all brackets and mounts to convert your rear axle to Gen 3 pickup points
- Hardware kit (nuts, bolts and mounting hardware)
Why Convert To Gen 3 Geometry
The Gen 3 Raptor rear is a coil-sprung 5-link: links locate the axle, a panhard bar centers it, and the springs and shocks only have to carry and control it. Converting a Gen 2 to the same pickup points means the proven Gen 3 geometry and the whole range of Gen 3 parts become usable on your truck.
Mounting the bypass shock through the bed gives it the length it needs for nearly 17" of rear wheel travel, with the bypass shock controlling that travel.
How It Is Built
- High quality U.S. steel and aluminum, laser cut and CNC bent
- Fixture welded and powder coated black for corrosion protection
- Stainless hardware for the main sections
- Grade 8 hardware for shock mounts and frame attachments
- Modular design you can reconfigure later
Choices And Configurations
Shocks
Fits 3.5 x 16" or 4.0 x 16" bypass shocks with piggyback reservoirs, and is compatible with the shocks from all of the popular manufacturers. You can order the shocks with your kit from us, or buy an off-the-shelf shock from any other vendor. If you order shocks from us, check with your FMI sales rep for current timing and availability.
Springs
Not included and must be purchased separately. Use stock Gen 3 take-offs or aftermarket springs.
Rear links and panhard bar
Use stock, billet aluminum, or heavy-duty fabricated adjustable components.
Tires
Works with 35" and 37" tires. Lay the spare flat under a bed cover, or run the dual stand-up tire setup with jack and fuel cans. You can switch configurations at any time.
The single lay-down tire works without the rear cargo section or with the fixed rear cargo section. It is not compatible with the upgraded slide-out cargo tray because of the slide-out tray's offset height.
Add-on options
- Bypass shock package
- Dual 5-gallon fuel jugs (only with the dual stand-up tire configuration)
- Rear cargo section
- Quick-release jack kit
- Fuel jug mount tray
- 35" to 40" Y-strap with twisted snap hook
- FMI billet rear links and panhard bar
- FMI rear bump stop kit
What You Will Still Need
Stock rear coil spring lower cast mounts. Source these from the dealership to complete the kit.
Stock rear coil spring top rubber isolators.
Springs. The kit does not come with springs. Buy them separately if you want upgraded aftermarket springs.
Fitment
2017–2020 Gen 2 Ford F-150 Raptor, at stock Raptor width.
Not compatible with a standard F-150 without a Raptor-width rear axle and the wider rear body. The stock rear springs and panhard bar will not clear at the narrower standard F-150 width.
Installation
Requires substantial cutting and welding, and should be installed by a qualified fabricator.
Questions
